Acquiring Emergency Supplies

We strongly recommend that everyone in the Joyce area prepare themselves to shelter in place for up to 30 days following a major disruption like a prolonged power outage or sever earthquake. To properly prepare, it would be wise to set aside a cache of drinkable water, non-perishable food, first aid supplies, clothing and bedding, rain gear, emergency lighting and cooking gear, tools, and special items such as medicines, unique supplies for those with disabilities and supplies for pets.

The items you chose to gather and store should be keep in water proof, easy-to-find and easy-to-access containers, such as lidded totes, backpacks and duffle bags.

Acquiring emergency supplies is best done over time, a little here and a little there, finances permitting. Visit local stores or check the Internet for ideas along these lines, or find create solutions in some cases. Whatever you chose to gather and store, do take steps to prepare a personal cache for use in a sudden disaster, whether it be a prolonged power outage or an even more disruptive large earthquake.

Presentations prepared by Donna Buck offering guidance can be found in under the main heading “Brochures” in this website. They provide suggestions regarding relatively inexpensive emergency equipment and supplies, including those recommended for family Go-Bags. If you have access to YouTube, you can find many useful videos along these lines.
