Join the Joyce Shelter Team

JEPP is focused on the survival of the people of the greater Joyce Operational Area following a major earthquake. All other considerations are secondary until that mission is accomplished. In response to recently updated Cascadia Earthquake information, which estimates a minimum of 96 hours before any outside relief help could be expected to assist the community, JEPP has stockpiled a cache of emergency supplies in three containers: a 40' steel Conex located at Fire District 4, Station 1; a second 40' Conex located behind the Joyce Bible Church (JBC); and a large steel shed also located behind the JBC. The extensive cache includes: tools and equipment; first aid and supply kits, sanitary supplies, assorted emergency supplies, food, sheltering materials, cots and floor pads for dormitory living, job bins, a water filtration trailer, an Army field kitchen, portable generators, and fuel.

Housed in these locked and secure container, the supplies will be accessed at the order of the area's incident commander (IC) who has the authority to open and implement the shelter plan in the event of a catastrophic disaster. While the best earthquake readiness plan should include individual preparedness to “shelter -in- place”  as recommended in FEMA guidelines* these supplies will be used to help establish and equip an interim Joyce Emergency Shelter within the designated community staging area in downtown Joyce. The shelter will be equipped to a Red Cross Standard. JEPP’s post-disaster emergency shelter will serve members of the community who can no longer live in their damaged residence or cannot manage on their own due to injuries, frailty or disabilities.

Volunteers are needed. Please contact JEPP at jepp.group@gmail.com if you would be willing to help with shelter preparations and participate in a Shelter Team training.
