JEPP Education Outreach

In its ongoing effort to educate young and old in the greater Joyce community, JEPP established the theme "30 Days On Your Own." We have printed brochures for distribution, prepared informational charts for display in emergency fairs and at Joyce Daze, and have held a number of community presentations. Members of the JEPP team have also presented separately to teachers, elementary, middle and high school students at Crescent School and have begun to interact with the Crescent School Coalition. In addition, Jim Buck, described as the engine behind the effort, has discussed JEPP developments with county, state and federal officials, and with the State Legislature in Olympia, in an effort to raise awareness and assist others in making necessary advance preparations.

Four rows of photographs at the bottom of this page depict members of the JEPP and CERT teams at work and JEPP brochure covers. In the first row we see displays prepared by Donna and Jim Buck, JEPP's October 2017 Joyce Community Emergency Fair, and Jim and Blaine presenting to Washington's EMD visitors. In the second row Rae is seen presenting to lower and upper elementary students and Donna to middle and high school students at Crescent School. The third row shows Nancy, Parker and Pat volunteering at Joyce Daze, Jim in the Joyce Days JEPP booth, and Pat describing CERT activities. The forth row shows the covers of four JEPP brochures: Is Joyce Prepared for a Major Disaster, 30 Days on Our Own, Emergency Water Treatment System, and Keep Your Property Safe in an Earthquake: Secure Your Propane Tank.

JEPP Presentations

The JEPP group has made several community presentations over the past two years, most or which were held at the Joyce Grange Hall. Click on any of the following links to access pdf documents prepared for some of these presentations: Predicted Effects of the Cascadia Earthquake in Clallam County; Joyce Community Update (May 26, 2016); Joyce Community Update (October 24, 2016); Camping in Your House (February 2016). It must be noted that these presentation slides accompanied lengthy talks and should therefore be considered support materials.

Click on the heading at left to access JEPP on Facebook (facebook.com/JEPPgroup) and learn more about the initiative. Our Facebook page provides timely information about events and current affairs related to emergency preparation. It also provides links to other websites and Facebook pages designed to educate the public about earthquake preparedness.

JEPP at Crescent School

Members of the JEPP group presented information about the Cascadia Subduction Zone and earthquake/disaster preparedness to grade 2-12 students at Crescent School in October 2017. Each student received a packet to carry home to his or her family and all were encouraged to prepare Go bags or Bug-Out bags. The packets contained information about supplies to have on hand for 30 Days on Your Own.

JEPP Beyond Joyce

On behalf of the JEPP group, Jim Buck and others have made presentations to communities outside of our area in an effort to educate Washington State residents and encourage cities, agencies and neighborhoods to make necessary preparations for the aftermath of a CSZ megaquake.

Brochures and Displays

The JEPP group has developed and printed a handful of informational brochures covering a range of disaster-readiness topics and folding/portable display boards for use when presenting to students and adults in Joyce and across the region. Presentations using these items have been made to local citizens, Crescent School students, Clallam County officials and regional and state agencies.
